Daab Chingri Bengali Recipe


            Daab Chingri is a signature Bengali dish where the Prawns are cooked in a Tender Coconut along with spices and coconut flesh! Also known as Prawns Malai Curry, this dish is usually served during Bengali weddings and ceremonies. This dish is best enjoyed with plain white rice!

INGREDIENTS:
  • 4-5 Large Prawns, deveined
  • ½ tsp Cardamom Powder 
  • 2-3 Bay Leaves
  • 1 tbsp Onion-Ginger-Tomato Paste
  • 2-3 Green Chillies, slit 
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • ¼ tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • ½ cup Coconut Water
  • 1 cup Milk/Cream
  • ½ tbsp Mustard Oil

METHOD:
1. Heat mustard oil in a pan. When hot, add bay leaves and cardamom and roast
2. Add the onion-ginger-tomato paste and sautee till all the moisture is released
3. Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder, and cook well 
4. Pour in the coconut water along with milk/cream and garam masala and mix well
5. Toss the prawns along with green chillies in the pan. Cover the pan and let the prawns cook well on a low flame for a few minutes. Once the curry thickens, add the prawns and curry to the green tender coconut shell and cover for a couple of minutes to soak in the coconut flavour.
