Sindhi Bhee(Lotus Stem) Ki Tikki Recipe


        Bhee is kamal kakdi in Hindi and lotus stem in English. This is unique to Sindhi families and a one of a kind pattice that you will not get to enjoy in any other culture! It is amazingly delicious, crunchy on the outside and soft inside! Check out the recipe below and let us know how it was! 

INGREDIENTS: 
For Filling: 
  • 250 gms Lotus Stems (Bhee), cut into pieces and boiled
  • 2 medium potatoes, boiled 
  • 2-3 nos Green Chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp crushed Anaar Dana (Pomegranate Seeds) 
  • 1 tbsp crushed Ginger & Garlic 
  • 1 tsp Dry Mango Powder (Amchur)
  • ½ tsp Black Pepper 
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala
  • Salt to taste

For Batter:
  • 1½ cups Gram Flour (Besan)
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Pinch of Soda Bicarbonate
  • Pinch of Turmeric
  • Pinch of Ajwain 
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying

METHOD:
1. Mash the lotus stem and potatoes and mix them. Add red chilli powder, green chillies, anaar dana, garlic, ginger, onion, dry mango powder, black pepper, garam masala and salt and mix well.
2. Make small lemon sized portions, press lightly into tikki shapes and set aside.
3. To make the batter mix gram flour with red chilli powder, soda bicarbonate, turmeric, ajwain, salt and three-fourth cup of water. Heat oil in a kadai.
4. Dip the prepared tikkis one by one in the batter and deep-fry till golden brown in colour.
5. Drain on an absorbent paper. Again, fry it to make it crispy. Serve hot with green chutney.
